Chess Game

ABOUT US

The purpose of Ashland Chess Academy is to teach interested children in grades K-8 the game of chess.

Children are taught the game of chess in its entirety. From learning the basics to practicing strategy and tactics, our aim is to pass on our 35 year knowledge of the game and let children grow with it.

A typical session will include a lesson followed by chess play.

As children begin to master the basics of the game, they have the opportunity to advance in skill level and learn more advanced chess.

A primary goal of the program is to advance beginning level students into tournament ready skilled students.

Chess is truly the sport of the mind and has been proven to have an incredible number of benefits for kids that they will take with them for the rest of their lives:

Improves Critical Thinking

Increases Math & Reading Skills
Stimulates Intellectual Creativity
Improves Problem Solving
Creates Positive Competitive Attitude
and many other life long benefits!

Through the game of chess, Ashland Chess Academy strives to help kids succeed in school and also helps them become productive members of society.

Ashland Chess Academy prepares its more motivated students to compete in chess tournaments with other children across the state including regional events, and even the Virginia Scholastic Chess Championships.

Motivated students will have the opportunity to be on a scholastic chess team and to compete in tournaments with other kids.

Students will also have the chance to become nationally ranked tournament chess players, and are offered the opportunity to play at the US Chess Federation's scholastic tournaments.

All teaching is done in a relaxed and fun way, without applying any sort of pressure on the student.

Affordable private lessons are available for the benefit of students or their parents who are looking for individual or small group private instruction. Contact us for more information.
