ASHLAND CHESS ACADEMY

The Ashland Chess Academy uses the game of chess as a learning tool to improve students’ literacy and math skills as well students’ problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills in the areas of logic, pattern recognition, perception, coordination, spatial relations, decision-making, and visualization.

We offer a comprehensive and complete enrichment program of instruction from beginner through advanced levels using our proprietary method of instruction.

No prior chess knowledge is required and all that is needed is a child's interest to learn chess.

A typical session begins with a chess lesson, followed by continued instruction and chess play. Private lessons are also available.

Please click the below link for the membership application form. Kindly bring the form to the Academy or email the completed form to:

ashlandchess@gmail.com

While we will provide some chess equipment, we strongly recommend that children bring their own which includes tournament-style chess board and pieces and a chess clock.

If you wish to purchase chess equipment, please do so here.  WholeSale Chess Store has the best prices on chess gear. Plus, buying chess equipment through WholeSale Chess supports the Academy.

Below is a short video that teaches the very basics of the game of chess, from a kid's point of view...

“Chess teaches foresight, by having to plan ahead; vigilance, by having to keep watch over the whole chess board; caution, by having to restrain ourselves from making hasty moves; and finally, we learn from chess the greatest maxim in life - that even when everything seems to be going badly for us we should not lose heart, but always hoping for a change for the better, steadfastly continue searching for the solutions to our problems.”

Benjamin Franklin
